There is an old German saying: "We grow too soon old, and too late smart." I am trying to prove it wrong. I'd rather go with the saying: "It's never too late." I heard 70 is the new 50 with us 'oldsters' living longer. I certainly hope so. I can use the extra twenty years to go with my hopes, dreams, and ambitions. The first being my writing. I have written things here and there over the years. I was even inspired to write a poem or two. Two years ago I got up my nerve , went to the local newspaper and started a Cook & Chat column, titled "From Shirley's Cottage. With this blog, I hope to share with you some of my recipes, hopes, and dreams. Thanks for coming along. Let's go relax on the lake... from Shirley's Cottage.

    Going Home...

    This is Kelly, or as my mom refers to me sometimes in her writings; daughter #2. I'm going to be posting for my mom until I can meet up with her in a couple weeks and help her with this whole blog thing. We did get her up and running yesterday, pretty exciting! Until she is on her own, I am going to post and share some of my favorite atricles she has written. At least this will give you a taste of what to expect from Shirley's Cottage. Someday soon her stories and recipes will be in book form. I know I will be line to get my copy.
    Today I will share with you the one she wrote about me last year while I was 'home'. The lake has my heart...the whole families for that matter, this article is calling me home once again this summer. I'm leaving soon, to New York first to get my daughter Paige and bring her HOME!
    Mom, I'll be home soon...
    Enjoy some previous articles for the next week or so, then get ready to join Shirley on the lake...(I'll be on the fence!)

    I am so happy Kelly begged me to be her friend back in her St. Charles days. If she didn't like me so much I would never have met you! I hope you are happy and healthy on the lake and I hope to see you again someday soon. Until then, I will keep myself updated with your blog and column. When I saw one of your favorite authors is Laura Ingalls Wilder my heart skipped a beat. I read the entire Little House series to my daughter when she was young. Just the two of us warm and cozy in our little house with Lucy's Pa in the kitchen cooking. The smell of homemade bread and soup coming from our kitchen helped cast us into the spell that Laura created with her intoxicating descriptions of the simple pleasures of life in a Little House.
